Israel Pokes France

November 9, 2006 · Mustapha Hamoui

Israeli jets almost caused a “catastrophe” with French UNIFL soldiers.

On October 31st, a bunch of Israeli Jets “dived” towards French UN positions in south Lebanon and almost caused the French to pull the trigger. Wow, that would have been a totally unexpected front with wide possibilities don’t you think?

The Israeli pilots have proven to be blind in the past, they can’t tell a rocket launcher from a water driller in Ashrafieh, and they can’t tell the difference between a clearly marked UN post and a Hezbollah post.

Of course, the Israeli military spokesperson denies everything: “Israeli air force never carries out offensive overflights over south Lebanon.”

Great! Blind and in denial.

A few days ago the Israelis tested the Germans’ nerves and forced them to send their Defense Minister scuttling to the region.

The Israeli machismo is nothing new, but the UNIFL’s presence is just giving it a well deserved international scrutiny.
