What Hariri Told The Iranian Ambassador

October 1, 2007 · Mustapha Hamoui

Most of the Lebanese observers were befuddled by the surprise visit the Iranian Ambassador made to Mr. Hariri a few days ago. What did they talk about?

According to the pan Arab newspaper Alhayat, there was a quid-pro-quo:

????? «??????» ?? ?????? ??? ??? ??????? ????? ?? ??????? ?????????? ?????? ?? ????? ??? ?? ???? «????» ?? ?????? ????? ????? ?????????? ???????? ?? ?????? ?????? ??????? ??? ??????..

????? ??????? «??????» ??? ??????? ???? ?????? ???? ??? ???????? ????????? ??? «???? ????????» ????? ???? ????? ??? ????? ????? «??? ????»? ??? ?? ????? ???? ?? ?????? ???? ????? ??? ?????? ??? ?????? ???????? ????? ????? ??? ????????? ???.

In a nutshell: The Iranians guarantee a presidential election while Hariri promises to “take care of” and “protect” the “resistance”.

Sounds like Mecca Agreement 2.0 to me. No wonder Jumblat is fuming..
