Lebanon on hold
March 9, 2008 · Mustapha Hamoui
The Iranians have decided to maintain Lebanon’s status quo until the next US administration.
If you’re hanging around Lebanese blogs waiting for that next breakthrough in Lebanese affairs, I’m afraid I have bad news for you. You see, our puppet masters in Iran have decided that they have too many things on their minds to care about this god-forsaken Levant country. This is why they decided to shelve us for now and focus on more important things.
According to Alhayat, Iranian sources have been explaining to various Arab states their preference for “calm” on the Lebanese front. Apparently, Iran is having secret talks with US, so it decided, alongside Syria, to keep the Lebanese situation on hold until such preliminary talks bear fruition.
In short, we are wasting our time, talking and writing and debating our Lebanese “situation”, thinking we can make any difference. We might as well all walk down the streets with the words “Bargaining Chip” tattooed on our foreheads.
