Lebanon Appears To Be At a “Democratic Turning Point”

I’ve also noticed -with my fingers firmly crossed- this trend .

Ghassan Karam:

[The postponing of the Internet Transactions Law] could signal an important change in the conduct of the Lebanese elected officials. Arguably this is one of the few times, may be the only time, where elected officials have responded to the peaceful concerns expressed by their constituents. We all do hope that this will serve as a model of what a real participatory democracy is all about.

True. Of course the real test will be when “big” issues are discussed, like the bizarrely controversial matter of improving the Palestinian refugees’ living conditions.

Also, the flip side of this observation is: Will Lebanese activists start accepting responsibility for the effectiveness of their advocacy and accept that they’re now a part of “the system” ?
