Israeli Media Demonizing The Lebanese Women Bound For Gaza

June 21, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

Propaganda is already in full swagger, at least in the right-wing Israeli media. The aim is to link the women to Hezbollah as much as possible with a particular focus on Samar Al Hajj, the woman leading the effort, and her husband. There is also a keen awareness of the international watchful eye:

Alhajj and her colleagues know that video footage of almost any rough physical contact between IDF forces and the women would cause further enormous damage to Israel’s already much-battered image.

In general the Israelis seem to be off balance and still don’t have a clue how best to deal with this. The linked to Jerusalem post editorial is so mixed up and confused that it throws everything but the kitchen sink at those women: From Hezbollah’s denying Haifa Wehbe access To Alhajj’s husband’s link to the assassination of P.M Rafik El Hariri in 2005.

Still, one shouldn’t underestimate the potential of this confrontation sparking another ‘unintended’ Lebanon war.
