Because of a “protocol mistake” according to the party. They say that Mr. Gemayyel as an ex President deserves better treatment. This may sound like small mindedness, but it’s in fact a politically astute stance: It allows Mr. Gemayyel to simultaneous boycott Assad’s visit and keep the door open for future meetings.
