Could Things Get Out Of Control?

Now, we have at least 3 Lebanese soldiers dead and one Journalist (from Al-Akhbar newspaper).

I am tempted to reverse my prediction that things will be soon under wraps. This could very well lead to a conflagration.

If the dead were Hezbollah members instead of Lebanese soldiers, there is no chance in hell that they’ll let things stand the way they are. But Hezbollah could also find itself in a position to respond to those killing to maintain its reputation as the defender of the Land. The party doesn’t want to give the impression that it considers Lebanese soldiers to be chopped liver.

That said, swift high-level diplomacy and cool heads can still contain the situation. Meanwhile, the UNIFL looks as impotent as ever.
