Hezbollah’s Position On STL “Not Final”

September 22, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

Naim Kassem, Hezbollah’s Number two tries to show some flexibility:

All Hizbullah wants is for the tribunal not to become an American tool and not be politicized. We consider the false witnesses file the key to settling this issue and since everyone has agreed that they are a problem, then why are our demands considered so impossible to fulfill?

After the high tension of the last few days, the Saudis started serious lobbying to “soften” Hezbollah. But honestly, I still don’t know what outcome would satisfy the “party of God”. It seems the only outcome they’ll accept is the complete destruction of the Tribunal.

When the “We have proof that Israel did this” track didn’t work, they’re now pursuing the so-called “false witnesses” argument which is not even a legally correct concept. Now, they’re hoping the Saudis will somehow talk with the French and the Americans to postpone the indictment, and meanwhile they’ll feed us some nice sounding words like the ones above.
