Geagea Attempts To Poach From The FPM

September 25, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea made this pitch to disgruntled FPM supporters today: (hover for Arabic original)

We were united by fifteen years of shared struggle, in which we were hunted, chased, repressed and imprisoned together, all for a set of principles and beliefs that we held on dearly. Let us once more unite around those principles and finish together what we had started. Young men and women of the Free Patriotic Movement, I call upon you today to make a bold decision to go back to the founding principles of your movement and hold on to them. This would unite us immediately and allow us to start a new day, with no residues from the past and no contentions, looking forward to the future instead of wasting time with the past and its trivialities.

I’m not sure this will work. Even if some FPM members are very angry with the direction of their party, their hatred for MR. Geagea is too deep for them to overlook.
