Lebanese Newspapers Have Weak Online Presence

October 28, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

In a compilation of the top 50 newspaper websites in the region, Lebanese newspapers didn’t make it to the top ten. Al-Akhbar is the first to show up at number 12.

Although I hate Al-Akhbar’s politics, I think it’s the only newspaper in Lebanon that got it right with their web presence. Meanwhile, the Daily Star is nowhere to be found in the entire list. Shocker!

Speaking of the Daily Star and on an entirely related subject, here’s what their editor in chief wrote in today’s editorial:

we can also congratulate ourselves for having enough talent in media-related sectors to allow Lebanon’s name to shine through amid the rubble, and despite the shortsightedness of our political class.

I couldn’t see him, but I’m pretty sure he wrote that with a straight face.
