Feminist Reaction to Nasrallah’s Speech on Gyno-Clinic
November 3, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui
Maya Mikdashi is sympathetic to his case, but was not impressed by specifics:
he lost me […] when he discursively constructed me, a female Lebanese citizen, as a repository for the `Ard of my brother, my father and my future husband. Had he stressed the sanctity of medical files, or had he just added the fact that the privacy of all citizens was being violated by the STL, he could have kept me, or at least a part of me.
Yes, but the ‘sanctity of medical files’ is not as emotionally powerful as the ‘honor of our women’, and we all know Sayyed Nasrallah’s proclivity to excite his audience. He’s all about emotions and about getting your blood boiling. Politically correct pronouncements do not a rousing speech make.
