The Israelis Want A “Credible Military Threat” From America Against Iran

November 12, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

The Jerusalem Post editorializes:

what happens if […] sanctions are exhausted and the Islamic Republic remains undeterred in its hell-bent push for nuclear capability? For Israel, many in the Republican party and some Democrats, and the majority of Americans and French, the answer is clear. The more credible a military threat today, the greater the chance that a resort to force may not prove necessary.

The old “be ready for war if you want peace” argument. But the Israelis would be foolish to think that the Americans can stomach another war in the foreseeable future for the sake of another country. The reference in the editorial to “the majority of Americans” is naive at best and deceitful at worst.

Besides, you really won’t need the brazenness of Ahmadinejad to call America’s bluff if such threats were made.
