“great political change”

November 17, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

Apparently, Hezbollah is planning to face the indictment with a “great political change” in Lebanon. This is a very interesting formulation because it could mean different things.

By “great political change”, does Hezbollah mean a coup that will topple the Lebanese government? Or do they mean the re-negotiation of the Taef agreement to replace the “half/Christian , half/Mulsim” political formula with a “third/Shia , third/Sunni , third/Christian” formula?

By keeping the wording vague, Hezbollah get to threaten March 14 Christians (who will assume the 2nd interpretation) without scaring off their Christian allies (who will assume the first, and perhaps hope that as a result their leader will be installed as President).
