The Government Will Decide What You Will Pay For Fast Internet In Lebanon

November 25, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

You read a great title like “Lebanon to enjoy fast-speed internet connection by early next year” and you get excited, then you read the article and get hit by idiotic statements like this one:

Once [under-sea cable] begins functioning the quality of services will automatically improve. Logically, prices should also drop but we cannot guarantee lower cost of services because such a decision is in the hands of the government

Why should the government decide this? Why can’t you make this available to the private sector and let everyone compete for quality and price?

The government want to maintain control over the spigots so that they could milk us for every single penny for horrible services. Enough with this logic already. It is precisely this mentality that made Lebanon a terrible place for telecommunication technology and business.
