The Lebanese Are Pretending To Be Shocked That Saudi Arabia Wanted To Wipe Out Hezbollah

December 8, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

So Wikileaks tells us something we all secretly whispered: That Saudi Arabia had military designs against Hezbollah:

The cable is describes a meeting in May 2008 between David Satterfield, a senior US State Department official, and Prince Saud al-Faisal.
At the meeting the prince “argued for an ‘Arab force’ to create and maintain order in and around Beirut. The US and Nato would need to provide transport and logistical support, as well as ‘naval and air cover’. Saud said that a Hezbollah victory in Beirut would mean the end of the Siniora government and the ‘Iranian takeover’ of Lebanon”.

Newsflash: This is what happens when one group is armed to the teeth and wants to impose its will on the rest of the populace: The unarmed party’s supporters will scramble to find ways to fight back.

The wikileak we really need is one that uncovers how many homes in Lebanon would have supported such a move.
