There Will Be A Fuss About PM Hariri Using Israeli Security Technology
December 15, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui
I read this report with interest. It says that P.M. Hariri is using advanced Israeli technology for his security. This can be politically explosive (ok, bad pun) because of the stigma attached to Israeli products.
Of course, Mr. Hariri did not buy the stuff directly from Israel. He got them from a French company, supposedly without knowing about their origin. Israel is well known for its cutting edge security technology, and the product Mr. Hariri is using could very well be irreplaceable and uniquely capable of enhancing his security. But that does not give him a political pass, so I’m expecting a categorical denial from the PM’s office soon.
But this got me thinking: Let’s say Israel invents a cure for cancer. Would we also not use it because of politics? In fact, isn’t it possible that many of the little pieces of medical technologies being used by top hospitals like AUB-MC are also made in Israel, and that they are being imported using European (or Egyptian/Jordanian) intermediaries ?
Update: As expected, the P.M’s office denied the report
