“Angry Arabs” Only Support Anti American Revolutions

February 15, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Angry Arab today:

I’ve always been put off by the Iranian “Green Movement”, the crowds seem to be of a fundamentally different nature than those which overthrew Bin Ali and Mubarak. They remind me of the demonstrations by Saad Hariri’s supporters after he lost his majority a few weeks ago. I don’t know exactly how they are different or why this is but I definitely sense it

Michael Young gave him the answer a few weeks ago:

the most significant reason why Lebanon’s [revolution in 2005] left many Arabs cold, and still does, was that it didn’t quite sit well with their deeper political predispositions. Where developments in Tunisia and Egypt are welcomed as blows against the United States, therefore satisfying regional hostility to the American order in the Middle East, the Lebanese embraced American and international assistance after the Hariri killing.

Which also applies to the Green Movement in Iran. Do not believe that the angry Arab types are against tyranny and repression. They’re only against what they call “American imperialism”.
