It’s Not About Censoring The Web. It’s About Dumb Censoring Of The Web

Yup:

while it’s important to acknowledge the role that the Internet played in the Egyptian uprising, we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that the protesters were blessed with a government that didn’t know a tweet from a poke […] It wasn’t the Internet that destroyed Mr. Mubarak — it was Mr. Mubarak’s ignorance of the Internet that destroyed Mr. Mubarak.

That was a very eye opening read. There’s something about this part of the world (including, or rather, especially in Lebanon) where you really feel that your government doesn’t get the internet, let alone web 2.0 and social media. When I try to find a reason why, I don’t find any. It’s not like our leaders are uneducated or underexposed to foreign countries and technologies. You listen to things like this and you’re like, man, these guys are really dumb..
