How Iran Sees Lebanon’s Demonstrations Against Sectariansim

March 7, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Press TV (Iran’s mouthpiece) [emphasis mine]:

Thousands of Lebanese people have held a rally to protest the country’s current political system, calling for scraping the Taif Agreement. The Lebanese demonstrators gathered in the capital city of Beirut on Sunday and urged that the majority should have a final and direct say in the government make-up, AFP reported.

This is becoming interesting. Iran sees the anti sectarian movement as a means to an end where Lebanon has a majority (shiaa?) rule. Those anti-sectarians have got to be very resilient to resist all the political attacks that are going to ensue. (example potential criticism: Most of those who demonstrated were Hezbollah supporters). Even the Aounists (Hezbollah’s christian allies) are not interested in a majority-rule system..
