A Possible Way Out For Mikati

March 12, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

If you still don’t understand why P.M designate Najib Mikati is in a very difficult situation, perhaps you should read up. The problem from Mr. Mikati’s perspective is that it’s very difficult for him to quit without effectively destroying his political career. But today’s Annahar offers what can be seen as a face-saving way out:

Some sources indicate that Mikati might propose to President Sleiman a technoratic cabinet. The president would accept it but March 8 would reject it, which effectively makes Mr. Mikati the new caretaker Prime Minister instead of Mr. Hariri

Mr. Mikati can then declare that he tried his best to form a reasonable, centrist government, but that both sides weren’t interested in helping him, so the best way is for him to resign.
