International Photojournalism Exhibit In Beirut Cancelled

May 21, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

AP:

A World Press Photo exhibit in Beirut closed early after Lebanese authorities ordered the removal of an Israeli photographer’s prize-winning work, an organizer of the exhibit said Friday […] Erik de Kruijf, a World Press project manager, said the organization preferred to close the exhibit 10 days early rather than face censorship.

I can’t really make up my mind if this was the right thing to do. The exhibit after all was a prestigious event for one of the world’s most coveted prizes. What if a Lebanese had won that prize and was looking forward to the exhibit?
