Arms are Flowing From Lebanon To Syria
May 23, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
But not in the way the Syrian regime is implying (i.e being sent by the Future Movement or the Saudis and Israelis). Lebanese shadowy arms dealers are making fortunes out of Syrian individuals and groups coming to Lebanon and stocking up on M16s , Ak-47s and Kalashnikovs..
This creates an interesting dilemma for the Lebanese who own arms: If the demand in Syria is high, prices will go up and they can make handsome profits off their pieces of junk gathering dust at home.
They would have to choose: Would they rather sell their weapons to Syrians and make good money? Or is uncertainty in Lebanon so high that they would forgo the profit and keep the arms as an insurance policy? If it’s the former, does this mean that the events in Syria are reducing the amount of underground weapons in Lebanon?
