Organizers Defends “Biggest Blood Drop” Event [Updated]

Posted below is a response I got from Samer Cheaib, one of the organizers of the Donner Sans Compter event I previously criticized:

The event we’re organizing isn’t just about breaking a record. all throughout the day, there will be a conference about donner sang compter, there will be informational and educational stuff about blood donation, and our idea of the biggest blood drop, is to pass along a message about donations, and that it is safe to donate.

People in lebanon are either scared of donating blood, or they find it useless, since they say that why should i give my blood to a stranger.

And this is what we’re trying to do with this event, and have more people donate, since everyday we receive hundreds of calls for donations.

As for blood banks, DSC has never been involved in them. we are just a link between people in need and people who can give blood.

First of all spell the organization’s name right and go check what Donner Sang Compter is all abt and what it does!

Second the problem in Lebanon isn’t the lack of blood banks at all, almost every hospital has its own blood bank but the problem lies in the lack of responsibility regarding the blood donation cause in Lebanon and of course the lack of awareness among young eligible donors!! Who among you is a regular blood donor? and by regular i mean who donates blood up to 5 times/year??

Third The main event isn’t breaking Guinness record but it’s World Blood Donor Day!! Has anyone thought of celebrating that special day before?? Has anyone thought of thanking all the anonymous donors before?? And for your information the event will include a blood donation spot for everyone who wishes to donate on that special day.

Fourth what’s morbid/sick abt this event? :s Gathering people for a noble cause is sick?? Or we should only gather mass amount of people in political protests??

Finally stop writing silly articles just to fill ur blogs and join us to celebrate on the 26th and maybe you guys will have the chance to donate blood.
