❊ The Devil’s Translation of the Outcome Of The Maronite Summit

June 3, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

We all know that Patriarch Mar-Bechara Butrous el Rai managed to gather Maronite political leaders under one roof yesterday, which is no mean feat. The dialogue among these men can hopefully clear the weather for Lebanese Christians.

According to the Daily Star, this was the outcome of the meeting:

A statement issued at the end of the meeting said the participants examined three major topics: 1) Commitment to the principle of partnership among the Maronites as a first step toward reviving this partnership with all Lebanese spiritual sects and cooperation to build the state and develop the Lebanese society. 2) Preservation of the Lebanese land as a means to consolidate existence and identity and preserve Lebanon’s special plurality and its diversified society within unity. 3) Restoration of balance to public administrations through an effective participation of Christians in serving the state and citizens on the basis of the respect of the principles of competence and an equal division [of civil service posts].

Kindly allow me to translate the above paragraph in a, shall we say, less charitable fashion so that normal people can understand what they actually talked about:

A statement issued at the end of the meeting said the participants could only agree on three topics: 1) The importance of the unification of Christians because the region’s Muslims are getting crazy and are killing Christians. 2) The importance of preventing Muslims from buying Christian lands. 3) The importance increasing the amount of Christians and reducing the amount of Muslims in important public jobs

Now things start to make sense..
