Apple Just Announced a Bunch of Cool Products
June 6, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
Really cool features where now all your music, photos and videos will be based in the cloud (the internet) and automatically sync on your devices. Great for anyone who has Apple products like Macs, iPhones and iPads.
All these products have one thing in common: They need internet. Fast internet. A lot of internet. And no, 3G won’t help here.
In Lebanon, we’re watching with envy how the world is speeding ahead while we’re stuck in the past, banning CDs (because Gaga is the devil) and VoIP access (because it deprives the government of our money).
I don’t want to be that spoiled kid who cries because his iPad doesn’t work in Lebanon. But at the same time, I have to say this: As someone who relies a lot on technology and the internet, my quality of life is starting to take a serious hit whenever I visit Lebanon, and I’m visiting from Africa…
Update: I just learned that the only way to upgrade to the new version of Mac OS X is through the app store, i.e via the internet. This means that each mac needs to download a whopping 4GB file. There are no CDs, and as far as I know, no way to pirate the updates. This could turn out to be very consequential for the usage of Macs in Lebanon (for example, in ad agencies), as many mac programs require the latest version of the OS to work.
