Wiam Wahhab Prefers Hariri Over Mikati

June 6, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Now we’ve seen it all:

Arab Tawhid leader Wiam Wahhab said on Sunday night that if he had to choose between Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati and outgoing PM Saad Hariri for the premiership, he would choose the latter. “Anyone who thinks that Mikati will [approve] a one-sided cabinet is crazy and delusional,” Wahhab told New TV.

Oh yes, Hariri is the best man to approve a one-sided pro-Syrian government. Good call.

On a more serious note, analysts have been arguing for a while that Syria no longer wants a March 8 government in Beirut because such a government will further increase international pressure and isolation on Syria, and that it wants things calm on that front. I don’t buy that. I think the real obstacle is March 8 the National Front itself. They’re genuinely incapable of agreeing among themselves to split the spoils of governance..
