❊ Who Needs Bird Brains?

I can’t get over the fact that there’s not a single woman in our new government. Not one. Zip. Zero.. Zilch.. Nada.. None..

This can’t be right. In the past, we always had a few token female ministers as a symbolic gesture to the aspiration that women, in an ideal world, should be well represented. They humored the feminists as it were, but this time they don’t even pretend to care.

The Druze constitute 5% of the population. A government without them is considered to be unconstitutional and morally scandalous. But a government without women, 50% of the population, is not a problem. This is blatantly unfair and unbelievably crass.

It’s a pity. Women groups have been very active in the last few years in trying to improve our country’s attitude to gender. Only recently they had a demonstration where politicians rushed to take photo-ops with them. The ladies even started seeing signs of hope that the system might finally improve.

Alas, as this latest government shows, they still have a long way to go..
