In Response to Hariri, Qanso Cries “Alqaeda”
August 2, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
Baath M.P. Assem Qanso:
Saad Hariri’s latest position on Syria complements the statements of the new Al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, who recently called on Syrian protestors to keep demonstrating,” Qanso said in an interview with As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper published on Tuesday. The MP added that Hariri and Zawahiri “are the same as Muslim fanatics.”
Incidentally, the Americans, French and most of the world’s governments and citizens are asking for the protection of peaceful demonstrators. Are they also “Muslim Fanatics”? Are they toeing the line of Alqaeda?
This is the same tired and lame accusation that the Baath and other authoritarian minoritists like to level against Sunni leaders who stand up against their tyranny. Those leaders can’t possibly just be asking for an end to massacres, they must be “fanatics”, “Wahhabis” or “Alqaeda” conspirators (unless they’re Turkish. In that case they would be labeled “Neo-Ottoman”)
It is unfortunate that other regional non-Muslims (like Lebanon’s FPM) are constantly scared and brainwashed into believing that logic.
