Who’s Killing The Minorities in the Region?

September 15, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Future Movement MP Abu Abed Kabbara:

Who is killing the leaders of so-called minorities? Did the Sunnis kill Kamal Jumblat? Did the Sunnis kill the elected Lebanese President Bashir el Gemayel? Did the Sunnis kill President René Moawwad? Did the Sunnis kill parliamentarian/journalist Gebran Tueni and journalist Samir Kassir? Or Minister Pierre Gemayel or MP Antoine Ghanem? Or the communist Georges Hawi? Did the Sunnis try to kill Ministers Marwan Hemadeh and Elias el Murr and Journalist May Chediac? Why the relentless campaign to scare the Christians of the Sunnis?

Of course his point is loud and clear, and to an extent fair. But to be reasonable, people concerned of an Islamist takeover in Syria like Patriarch Rai — to whom this speech is ostensibly directed — are not afraid that the Christians would be killed, but that they would become marginalized and treated like second class citizens (like Copts in Egypt) or harassed (like Christians in Iraq.)
