The Za3im’s Son Will Be Taking Over Soon

October 18, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

A snapshot of how Lebanese traditional leaders maintain hold on power:

Druze leader Walid Jumblatt has given his son, Taymour, a leading position in his Progressive Socialist Party, a PSP official said Monday. The official, who spoke to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said the move was part of a reshuffle to “inject new, young blood” into the PSP […] “His appointment as a leading figure in the PSP is part of a transitional period prior to him taking the mantle from his father,” the source said.

Here’s why the PSP official spoke under the condition of anonymity: A 29 year old will soon become his boss and the leader of an entire Lebanese faction. But there’s nothing to be ashamed of; in Lebanon, everyone does it..

Taymoor’s first political campaign will probably be about advocating the importance of merit and equality in a democracy..
