The Young, The Restless & The Brave

Guest contributor Haytham Elkhoja hasn’t completely lost hope in the future of March 14. He invites us to keep an eye on three young politicians who he believes embody the spirit of that day and who can perhaps be part of a more promising future.

Saleh Mashnouk, Samy Gmayel and Okab Saker

- The Future of March 14? -

14 of March 2005 was a great day. There were no real political parties, no nut job religious clerics petrified about the influence of their sect, no generals lacking adequate sanity, or serial killer convicts in the spotlights… We were people fed-up with Syria, Hezbollah and their insignificant allies.

I won’t go into what happened in the last 7 years, we all have a pretty good idea. We now have YouTube proof that our politicians lie (YouTube proof is the most reliable form of evidence there is) and their followers don’t care if they’re on the right side of history or not, they’ll follow them blindly. We’ve seen this magical phenomenon with FPM and PSP followers… Absolutely clueless where their leaders are taking them.
Now, i won’t spare the other side, Hariri & Co are emotional and utterly incompetent, LF and Kataeb are submissive, “busy” working on internal party reforms and whatnot.

This leaves us with 3 young politicians that in my opinion could and should bring back the cedars revolution to what it was once.
I’m talking about the following politicians, Saleh Mashnouk, Samy Gmayel and Okab Saker. Coincidentally, they are Sunni, Maronite and Shiia respectively. See where I’m going there?

I’ve been following the 3 politicians closely through their TV and Internet appearances and every time i hear one or the other, I get nostalgic. I know it’s only a sentiment, but it’s a start and i invite those who went down on that glorious day to focus their political attention to those 3 young fearless bulls and stop wasting time with the rest … they will deliver, give them a chance.
